Introduction: This article reviews the role of Internal Medicine in the management of chronic diseases, focusing on the current clinical approach, challenges and future directions. Chronic diseases pose a significant burden, and Internal Medicine, with its holistic approach, is crucial in their management.
Development: Comprehensive and personalized strategies for treatment, the importance of prevention and early detection, and the management of polypharmacy were identified. Challenges include care coordination, integration of emerging technologies, and disparities in access to care.
Practical applications or future lines of research: Personalization of treatment, integration of technological tools and patient education programs are suggested. Future research should focus on the effectiveness of integrated management strategies, the impact of emerging technologies, and the development of new models of care.
Conclusions: Internal Medicine has a fundamental role in the management of chronic diseases, facing challenges that require innovative and collaborative approaches. Future directions and research should focus on continually improving care and outcomes for patients.
