Abstract

Introduction: Psoriasis is a chronic, immune-mediated inflammatory disease, associated with both genetic and environmental factors that affects approximately 2 to 4% of the world's population. An evident relationship between psoriasis and metabolic syndrome has been demonstrated in different epidemiological publications. However, the pathological mechanisms underlying this comorbidity are unclear.

Objective: To clarify the potential mechanisms that mediate the association between psoriasis and metabolic syndrome.

Conclusions: The literature suggests that metabolic syndrome (insulin resistance, high blood pressure, hyperlipidemia and obesity) and psoriasis do not always occur together, but the presence of more than one of the risk factors for metabolic syndrome considerably increases the risk. from suffering from psoriasis and vice versa. Therefore, in addition to pharmacological management, healthy lifestyle changes will have a positive impact on the elimination or reduction of psoriasis lesions, in addition to a decrease in the chances of developing cardiovascular diseases in the future.
